Reaching the final stage of Graphic Design class, more work to do for portfolio presentation. Getting the right typeface, saving stuff in tiff format for photo editing. What really sucked was the port from svg saved from Inkscape to Adobe Illustration 3 and vice versa. I tried to use EPS format but it takes too much space. I cannot use Scribus for editing due to academical issue. What a way to start 2009.

2008 was an interesting yet as Fedora contributor despite a busy session for Graphic Design course. I almost felt exhausted like never before with a combination of exercises such as Capoeira. As one of Echo icon theme developers, it was almost hard despite a good effort from Martin. Because of the use of axonometric projection, the theme did not make to Fedora 10 release. Echo perspective was started and will require more intensive reworks derived from its axonometric counterpart. I am taking a break in order to recover from mind stress and exhaustion. On the other part, I took leadership from Display team from FedoraOnXO while tracking project from One Laptop Per Child. That is how 2008 was from my perspective.

Following the saga about lack of Network on Gigabyte motherboard running x86_64 with 4 GB RAM support enabled. I have contacted Gigabyte about the issue after upgrading the BIOS to F9G. Apparently, NForce3 250GB seems to be the culprit as it seems to not grasp 64bit DMA. Stay tuned about the report.

As I will soon complete graphic design formation, I am wondering if a company like Red Hat fits well for that position. Thanks.

Early concept of what I am currently do for school project. All it remains to do is painting, sticking and some refinement. I had to prepare another version based on Japanese Pop Art (stumbled on it while looking for Pop Art movement).

Currently, only Radeon R500 and higher users will get kernel modesetting by default. There is work in progress to provide modesetting for R100 and R200. Additionally, Intel kernel modesetting drivers are in development, but not turned on by default. I managed to get a pretty graphical boot from Plymouth only using vga=0x318 on grub line with Nvidia Geforce 7800GS using latest rawhide update (it already got Fedora 10 Beta). Fedora Artwork released a new version of echo-icon-theme. One of noticeable change is the coverage of System -> Administration level from the default desktop. Few questions: Does anyone know a better process to save svg file fro Inkscape to pdf while preserving effects like blur and transparency? SVG and PDF models. Why Fedora version of Scribus cannot properly configure the margins and does not use the default system fonts? Bug #446149 has been around since Fedora 8.

English (update) echo-icon-theme 0.3.2.1 has been released for Fedora 8 and 9 on fedora-test-update repository with new and updated icons on the first level of Gnome menu. Following my post related to NetworkManager . I have found out about the workaround. If you have x86_64 system with 4GB support enabled, you should disable it in order to make NetworkManager work. I am not sure if that bug affects other distributions so, possibly the bug may be related to the x86_64 kernel. Let see if my theory can be verified.

Using a x86_64 DVD version of Fedora 9, I have installed the system and noticed an issue: the network is not active when trying to use third-party repository. For some unknown reason, the network is not using Ethernet despite manually setting the IP. I had submitted a bug report and followed suggestion: still no online access even with NetworkManager disabled. The same issues also occured on... Fedora 8. The Ethernet adapter is a integrated Marvell Yukon on the motherboard, it ran fine on Fedora 7 and i386 version of Fedora 9 using network install. Hopefully this issue will be resolved soon.

The new sounds effect on Gnome desktop environment is refreshing. At home, the x86_64 DVD version is seeded now that I have a T1 connection and have upgraded the DDR-RAM to its maximum (4GB). Being busy with school, I just say: well done team . Next step, bring Echo icon theme for Fedora 10 and get more artists involved. For some reasons on Fedora 9 RC, Inkscape has issues with selecting the typeface and Scribus does not have a default paragraph style . Hopefully those bugs have been rectified.

Following Máirín blog , I took occasion create a set of eight wallpapers (wave-testXX) displaying rippling effects . Each set represent the time of day from sunrise to right. For example, sunrise-wave-test00 switches to day-wave-test01 that switches to sunset-wave-test02 that swithces to night-wave-test03 then sunrise-wave-test04. As a result, each wallpapers will be different while still retaining the wave theme giving a quiet dynamic feel. The cure wave-test.xml file is set for a quick animation thus might cause slowdown for low-end desktops and laptops. The work is in progress as bubble and stars are not included and the time of day is not included yet, it should land on Fedora 9 soon. Improvement is welcome.
